Frequently
Asked
Questions

What is functional nutrition?

Functional nutrition is a component of functional medicine, which is an evidence-based approach to healthcare that focuses on treating the whole person, not just isolated symptoms or diseases. Nutrition is at the core of functional medicine, as food and nutrients are seen as a likely root causes of health issues.

What do you mean by "personalized" nutrition?

My compassionate approach involves meeting you where you're at and working to understand the needs and inner workings of your individual body. As part of this, we talk through the details of your health history, family history, symptoms, goals, food likes and dislikes, and relationship with food. I also utilize nutrition-related labs to get insights into your individual biochemistry so I can provide recommendations targeted to your needs.

3

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance at this time. However, you may be able to pay with your HSA/FSA card. Your HSA/FSA may require a letter of medical necessity (LMN) from your doctor. More information can be obtained from your HSA/FSA plan administrator or the IRS website FAQ about medical expenses related to nutrition, wellness and general health.

4

How many appointments will I need?

The length of time we'll work together will vary depending on your unique needs. On average, my clients feel supported in making and maintaining lasting changes after about 6 sessions.

5

Will I need labs?

Labs provide important information about how your body works. As part of your intake paperwork, I ask for copies of your previous labs so I can see past results and trends in tests effected by nutrition. I also often recommend additional nutrition-related lab testing to get the most current information about the areas we need to target.

6

What labs do you recommend?

Blood tests drawn at LabCorp provide a significant amount of information. Panels that provide the nutrition-related labs I rely on typically average $150-$200. If needed, functional testing is available to provide additional information.
